Universities are hubs for research-led knowledge production and teaching in relation to climate change. As large organisations, they may also have significant emissions profiles that contribute to our current crisis of anthropogenic climate change. Universities can also lead by action through their sustainability and emissions mitigations efforts.
The University of Tasmania is one of only two universities in Australia that is certified carbon neutral, and, as this year’s organiser of Global Climate Change Week, the university is calling for action from other universities in Australia and globally to take up the challenge as leaders in climate change action.
Can your university make significant sustainability or climate change mitigation pledge during Global Climate Change Week? As hosts of GCCW 2020-2024, the University of Tasmania would like to highlight and celebrate your university’s efforts and build a coalition of strong university-initiated leadership on climate action. We’d like you to join us to build ambition by bringing concrete mitigation actions to GCCW year-on-year, making universities not just thought leaders but leaders of climate change action.
