While the ACTS conference is still six months away, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the event until 2021.
We recognise that by the end of the year there will most likely be a significant easing of COVID-19 related restrictions, including for travel; however we anticipate many in our valued community will still be facing a range of other restrictions, especially for budgets, travel and professional development.
During these challenging times, ACTS will continue to do everything we can to support our members and campus sustainability. We look forward to announcing a range of new virtual professional development opportunities in the coming months as an alternative to a face-to-face event, and of course welcoming you back to the conference next year!
We are delighted that the University of Tasmania will continue to host the event in Hobart in 2021. Our team is working through a number of options regarding conference dates, and we will keep you updated and informed on any new developments.
As always, we appreciate the support of our members and the entire sustainability community as we work together towards a better future for all.

GREEN GOWN AWARDS AUSTRALASIA OPENING SOON

We are delighted to confirm that the Green Gown Awards Australasia will be continuing this year, albeit with some small alterations!
The awards will be launching slightly later than the previously scheduled early May date. The delay is due to the ACTS team taking time to review the structure to ensure that we have considered all implications for institutions applying to awards in the midst of a global pandemic. Most notable of the changes will be the removal of the mandatory case study video submission for all stage two finalists.
We look forward to officially launching the 2020 awards by the end of May, with extended deadlines for submission. If you have any questions in the meantime, please visit our website or get in touch with the ACTS team.

ACCELERATING SDG PRACTICE: INTEGRATING EDUCATION FOR THE SDGs INTO HIGHER EDUCATION CURRICULA IN OUR REGION

As part of our joint Accelerating SDGs Practice initiative, SDSN AusNZPac and ACTS would like to organise a workshop sometime this year on integrating education for the SDGs (ESDGs) into higher education curricula in our region. The general aims of the workshop are to connect the community that is involved in this work across our region, to share best practices, and to brainstorm together strategies for how we can encourage our institutions to expand/mainstream ESDGs in curricula across the whole institution.
To help ensure the workshop meets the needs of the community, and responds to the latest best practices and thinking around ESDGs, we would like to convene an initial planning discussion in late May or early June with experts from SDSN/ACTS member institutions on how to design the workshop. In particular, to:
- Refine the objectives of the workshop
- Determine the format, length and timing (the workshop was originally conceived as a 1-day in-person session at the ACTS Conference in November (which has now been postponed)
- Identify expert involvement in ongoing planning and delivering the workshop
We invite people from SDSN/ACTS member institutions, who have practical expertise with integrating ESDGs or ESD in curricula in a variety of areas within their institution, and an interest in expanding this, to join this initial discussion.

This event will be held entirely online and is free to attend, it has been organised by Climate Action Network for International Educators (CANIE), a grassroots initiative launched in October 2019.
You will explore the implications for policy, business models and operations, and showcase initiatives by institutions and educators around the world. We will look at opportunities to reduce emissions from your international operations, to incorporate climate action into your strategy and to build climate literacy among students and staff.
